Supplies:

• · A large smelly treat
• · A stopwatch

The Test:

Have your dog sit. Show them the treat and let them smell it. Place the treat about 6 feet in front of them on the floor. Cover the treat with the towel. Release the dog and start the stopwatch. Verbally encourage your dog to take the treat.

Scoring:

• · 5 points - if your dog retrieves the food in 15 seconds or less.
• · 4 points - if your dog retrieves the food in 15 to 30 seconds.
• · 3 points - if your dog retrieves the food in 30 to 60 seconds.
• · 2 points - if your dog tries to retrieve the food but eventually gives up.
• · 1 point - if your dog doesn’t try to retrieve the food within 2 minutes.
