Follow bathing requirements per breed, to make sure you don't dry out or ruin your dog's coat. Ask a breeder or professional groomer what type of shampoo should be used for your dog.

Put a rubber mat in the bathtub or towel in the sink to prevent your dog from slipping.

Gently put a cotton ball in each ear to help keep them dry.

Rinse your dog with warm water using a spray nozzle or a large cup. Avoid spraying water directly in the dog's face.

Use a small amount of shampoo, working it into a lather. Start at the head and work your way down the body, ending at the tail. Gently clean the chin, toes and anus. Be careful to keep shampoo out of your dog's eyes.

Rinse the dog with warm water using the same techniques as before. Make sure the soap has been completely rinsed and the water runs clear. Drain the tub or sink.

Dry your dog using a clean dry towel and/or a hair dryer on a low heat setting.

Brush your dog as they dry to help get the coat back in shape.
