Dog Grooming - Brushing Your Dog
Easy
Not all dogs require daily or even weekly brushing. For brushing requirements for your specific dog, read their breed description, ask a breeder or your local doggroomer.
Find the right type of brush for your dog's coat. It is recommended that all grooming practices begin as a puppy, to make the process easier.
applying gentle pressure, begin at the top of the back between the shoulders and take it all the way to the base of the back (where the tail is). Continue this across the entire back and down the sides of the dog. If your dog is squirming, you might want to lessen up the pressure. Use their body language to determine how much pressure they will tolerate. After the you finish the back, move on to the neck, legs and tail, brushing in a downward motion. Your dog may not let you brush the inner legs and stomach due to the sensitive nature of these areas. Clean out the brush as necessary to remove dead hair.
Be sure to keep brushing fun and positive. Use treats and praise to reward your dog for being still or well behaved. If your dog becomes restless during brushing stop what you are doing and come back to it the next day.
